Film Screening: FRIDA (2002)

Catalyst presents a showing of the 2002 film Frida, a 2002 biographical film which depicts the professional and private life of the surrealist Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. It stars Salma Hayek in her Academy Award nominated portrayal as Kahlo and Alfred Molina as her husband, Diego Rivera.

Catalyst Gallery has its doors open for all those who would like to show their work. It is a FREE FOR ALL show, which means it is completely non-juried and anything that is brought, is shown. A salon style show, there will be antique furniture and glassware for decoration that is also for sale. This show is meant to highlight Catalyst's connection with the undergraduate student body at UCI, and is a celebration of all forms of art from our campus.

Catalyst presents SATISFIED, a solo exhibition by Vida Liu, that examines concepts of consumerism and materialism offering a journey towards finding a peaceful solution in the end. It consists of some early representational works that progress towards more recent abstract pieces.

Sea of Forms

Sea of Forms, a solo exhibition by Rina Kim, explores the phenomenon of commodity fetishism and consumer culture that relies upon material objects to instigate and construct relationships between people. As social relations are constantly being mediated and expressed through trades and exchanges of commodities, the true use-value of things becomes obstructed and forgotten. This body of work aims to reverse the impulse for constantly pursuing material goods, and rather, direct consumers towards establishing human relations organically.
