Catalyst Gallery presents "Entre," an exhibit by Svetlana Linetskaya and Joey Luu that explores the duality between gender, body image and perception. The exhibit emphasizes issues presented within the topic of the male and female gaze, specifically exploring the boundaries and limitations placed on men and women through the popular canons of body image and expected canons of sexuality.

Catalyst Gallery presents Entre, a dual exhibition featuring paintings by Svetlana Linetskaya and photographs by Joey Luu. The opening includes a live performance by July Sunnyday at 6:3o PM.

Entre is a multimedia exhibition in which Linetskaya’s paintings and Luu’s photography engages in a conversation between concepts of the male and female gender and asks what is hidden behind these masks worn by both sexes. The Exhibit highlights the notion that there are no longer any single truths about insecurities associated with body image and sexuality, and emphasizes that sexuality and body image is now a two way road for both the male and the female. “Peeling Away,” a photography installation by Joey Luu mirrors “Untitled,” a painting installation by Lana Linetskaya and presents a myriad of images that creates an environment of confusion in understanding and interpretation by asking the viewer to reflect on biases, cultural, religious, and sexist views that may have been implicated by societal norms.

Whether utilizing their own image as overt visual reference or transcending the figure altogether, artists have created self-portraits for centuries. You See I seeks to explore the ways contemporary undergraduate artists are tackling this historical genre. Fiber, paint, photography, video and audio works are represented and provide evidence that contemporary artists are utilizing disparate mediums to communicate ideas about who they are.
